Final Christmas Tree leaves the building

73 Sumner residents bid a sad farewell to the (hopefully) final holiday tree from Christmas 2009- a small, forlorn, nearly-bare 3ft tree squeezed into the green recycling bin today. Perhaps the tree has been a symbol of the 209-2010 Winter That Never Ended, gamely soldering on, its needles slowly turning gray to match the continuing gray skis outside. Or perhaps the recent concrete chipping increased the tree's needle-drop rate so precipitously that, while it had been expected to last at least through Memorial Day, it no longer filled a useful function and its stay was therefore cut short.

With April here, though, surely both the weather and its former owners thoughts are turning to sunnier, springlike behaviors, meaning this hardy evergreen must now move on to the next phase of existence.
